EU-Israel, Human Rights Working Group Meeting - Brussels, 2 September 2010 (02/09/2010)
Officials from the EU and Israel met in Brussels today to continue their regular dialogue on human rights in the context of the European Neighbourhood Policy.
The fifth meeting of the Human Rights Working Group between Israel and the European Union took place in Brussels today. The EU-Israel human rights dialogue was held in an open and constructive atmosphere, and allowed for a fruitful exchange of views on issues of mutual interest.
The Israeli delegation was headed by Mr. Eviatar Manor, Deputy Director-General for International Organizations at the Israel Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The EU was represented by the European Commission and the Secretariat General of the Council.
The meeting gave both sides the opportunity to advance their dialogue on human rights issues, the treatment of minorities and the international human rights system, which altogether constitute a key component of the EU-Israel ENP Action Plan. The EU noted the important role that civil society organizations play in the context of an open and vibrant democracy.
This fifth meeting of the Human Rights Working Group took place back-to-back with the meeting of the Working Group on International Organisations. Israeli and EU Delegations will meet again on 19 October in Jerusalem to hold their regular Sub-Committee on Political Dialogue, which will cover a full range of issues of common concern.
