EU/CoE Conference on Poverty and Inequality brings together researchers, NGOs, trade unions and Government representatives in Strasbourg, 21-22 February
EU Commissioner for Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion László Andor participates in the conference "Poverty and inequality in societies of human rights: the paradox of democracies" held in Strasbourg on 21-22 February. He addressed the plenary session, as did CoE Secretary General Thorbjorn Jagland. CoE Director General for Democracy Snežana Samardžić-Marković, Gilda Farrell (Head of CoE's Social Cohesion Research and Early Warning Division) and Emma Toledano, (Head of the European Commission's Unit on Social Inclusion and Poverty Reduction) also spoke during the Conference's plenary session.

Intercultural Cities gather at Irish EU Presidency/CoE Andorran Chairmanship joint event in Dublin on 6-8 February
Mr Jan Truszczynski, European Commission Director General for Education, Training, Culture and Youth offered a welcome speech at the Intercultural Cities Conference “Making Diversity work for Cities”. Mr Alan Shatter TD (Irish Minister for Justice), Albert Esteve Garcia (Andorran Minister of Culture), Naoise Ó Muirí (Lord Mayor of Dublin), Snežana Samardžić-Marković (CoE Director General of Democracy) and Ludmila Sfirloaga (Vice President of the CoE Congress of Local and Regional Authorities) also addressed the experts at the Conference.

Expert Group "Anti-Doping", 3rd meeting, 5 September 2012
National experts and European Commission staff met at the Delegation of the European Union to the Council of Europe in Strasbourg on 5 September 2012. Discussions were held on the EU's contribution to the revision of the World Anti-Doping Code and to the International Standards. During the meeting a draft proposal regarding the EU recommendations in the field of combating doping recreational sport was prepared.
