The European Union Delegation to Australia is looking for an Information and Cultural Assistant to join our Press, Political, and Information Section.

We are

The European Union (EU) is an economic and political partnership between 27 European countries. It plays an important role in international affairs through diplomacy, trade, development aid and working with global organisations. Abroad, the EU is represented through more than 140 diplomatic representations, known also as EU Delegations, which have a similar function to those of an embassy.

The EU Delegation to Australia, Canberra, works in close coordination with the Embassies and Consulates of the 27 EU Member States. We are a fully-fledged diplomatic mission and represent the European Union in dealings with the Australian government in areas that are part of the EU’s remit.

 

We offer

We are looking for an energetic and highly motivated Information and Cultural Assistant. The selected candidate will contribute, under the supervision of the Head of Section, to the implementation of the Delegation's Information and Cultural policy.

Following main tasks and duties are currently required: 

  • Assist the administration of the Press and Information budget (incl. tendering recording, and reporting)
  • Prepare reports, information notes and correspondence for Head of Section and Head of Delegation
  • Contribute to the technical preparation and production of in-house publications
  • Contribute to the selection of promotional material (incl. purchase, design and distribution )
  • Assist with cultural events with EU member states
  • Assist in organising exhibitions, conferences & events across Australia, such as Europe Day, the Multicultural Festival, Film and Street Festivals etc.
  • Assist the administration of the EUVP programme in Australia including direct liaison between the candidates and the EUVP Unit in Headquarters 
  • Assist the administration of awards and scholarships etc. to various academic institutions. 
  • Support the preparation and follow-up of the Local Schengen Coordination meetings as well as the coordination meetings of Consular Officers.

The place of employment is Yarralumla. This is a local agent post, classified in the function group 2, with unlimited duration (including a 6-month probationary period). The minimum gross salary is AUD 7,006  (excl. Superannuation) per month, subject to increase according to the selected candidate’s relevant experience. The working hours are 37h30 per week, from Monday to Friday.

Selection Criteria

Minimum Requirements:

  1. The candidate must be an Australian citizen, or holder of a valid visa authorising to work full time in Australia.
  2. Education: minimum a Bachelor degree.
  3. Minimum of two (2) years of working experience in the relevant fields (event organization, media, public relations, publishing, etc.).
  4. Language skills: English: level C1 or above (Common European Framework of Reference of Languages)

The following will be considered an asset:

  1. Working experience in a diplomatic mission.
  2. Bachelor or Master degree in a relevant field (journalism, public relations, or related field).

The procedure

After the deadline for applications, the applications will be reviewed by a Selection Committee set up for this purpose. The Selection Committee will prepare a short-list of candidates who are considered to be the most suitable for the post on the basis of a preliminary assessment of the information provided in their application letter and the supporting documents. The short-listed candidates will be invited to an assessment phase which may include a formal interview and a written test, if necessary – during this phase, the Selection Committee will assess the suitability of the candidates for the post.

The candidates who have not been short-listed will not be contacted individually; however, the Delegation will use the same means of publication as for this Vacancy Notice to inform the remaining candidates once the recruitment procedure has been completed and that a candidate has (or has not) been recruited.
