Are you curious to learn more about work of a diplomatic mission and how the EU Delegation represents EU interests and values in Partnership with the African Union? Are you interested to contribute to the implementation of the EU-AU Innovation Agenda?

We offer:

A traineeship of 4 months within the education, science, research and technology team  at the EU Delegation to the African Union, starting in the last trimester of 2024.

Main tasks:

Contribute to the preparation of statements, speeches, reports and information collection. Particular focus will be on education, science, technology and research;

Preparatory work in the implementation of the EU-AU Innovation Agenda and other related events and initiatives;

Contribute to the communication and visibility work of the EU Delegation: a) drafting press releases, project fiches and other communication documents; b) contributing to the organisation of events; c) supporting in any other strategic communication tasks.

Undertake research on issues proposed by the Science Counsellor and/or Head of Political and Policy and Cooperation Section.

We look for:

Qualifications or special requirements:

  • Only applicants currently residing in Ethiopia will be considered.
  • Bachelor or Master’s degree preferably with a focus on education, science, research, technology
  • Maximum 1 year of work experience
  • Fluency in English
  • Excellent analytical and drafting skills, a keen understanding of and interest in African Union’s education and research agenda
  • A hands-on, pro-active, reliable attitude, an openness to learning, and willingness to contribute with ideas.

Before applying you are requested to examine the dedicated website as well as the general eligibility criteria for a paid traineeship (Article 8 of the Decision ADMIN(2017)28 – Paid traineeship).

Each selected trainee will receive a monthly grant to cover living expenses. All costs related to travels, visa, insurance, accommodation must be borne by the trainee.

Applications from non-eligible candidates will not be considered. After the evaluation of all applications, shortlisted candidates will be contacted and invited for an interview. Unsuccessful candidates will be notified by email. In case the selected candidates are not able to present the required documents, their application will be rejected.

The traineeships can only be offered in compliance with the local legislation as well as the legislation of the country of origin.

Citizens from EU Member states:

  • must provide proof that they will be covered against the risk of a pandemic and the costs of repatriation;
  • must hold a relevant entrance visa and / or temporary residence permit where applicable,  based on the traineeship agreement, the duration of the traineeship, and in compliance with the local legislation.
