Welcome to the webpage of the Delegation of the European Union to Afghanistan. I hope that this website will help you to better understand our mission, role and activities in the country. In addition, this page should provide you access to all key documents regarding the relations between the EU and Afghanistan as well as make available useful information on the EU's financial instruments in support of the country's effort towards reconstruction.
In my current role as the EU Special Representative and Head of the EU Delegation to Afghanistan, one of my key tasks is to streamline EU's response to the Afghan Government led efforts towards the stabilisation of the country. There are more than half of the total 28 EU Member States represented in Afghanistan and we are working closely with each and every one of them in order to ensure synergies between foreign policy, development and security components of EU engagement in the country.
Every day, I am working on the implementation of the EU Action Plan on Afghanistan and Pakistan as far as it concerns Afghanistan and it remains one of my foremost priorities. Being at the same time the European Union Special Representative and the Head of the EU Delegation, I have been able to speak with one EU voice and on behalf of all my EU colleagues since September 2013. Not replacing them of course, but nevertheless being the spokesman for our joint vision and will.
Overall, I together with other EU member states aim at providing a joint response to the Government led efforts on curbing corruption, enhancing security, good governance, economic and social development and human rights.
On this webpage, you will find a lot of other useful information which reflect the various manners in which we provide development aid and partner with the various stakeholders' in the country.
We look forward towards receiving feedback from you on how we can make this website more suitable for your needs.
Ambassador Franz-Michael Skjold Mellbin,
EU Special Representative and Head of the EU Delegation to Afghanistan
