Elisabetta PIETROBON, Ambassador of the European Union to Burundi.

Message from the Ambassador

Dear Burundians, dear internet users,

It is with great pleasure and a lot of enthusiasm that I have taken up my post in Burundi, this beautiful country in the heart of Africa.

My priorities are to further strengthen the EU-Burundi relations, built upon shared values and solid common interests: democracy and rule of law, promotion of peace and stability, human rights, economic growth, inclusive development and regional economic integration. Partnership with Burundian authorities and sectoral dialogues will remain the cornerstone of our relations.

I firmly believe that the EU-Burundi partnership is capable of meeting people's expectations thanks to the many cooperation programmes.

Together with the entire EU Delegation team, the EU will continue to work closely with the authorities to improve the living conditions of Burundian citizens through a range of projects addressing their concerns: access to healthcare, drinking water, energy, education, justice, rural development and the freedom to be informed.

My duties extend beyond maintaining dialogue with Burundian authorities and monitoring the impacts of EU projects. I am committed to go into the field, meeting the population, youth, women, and all stakeholders who contribute to the progress of the country, in order to enhance the effectiveness of our interventions. The EU is there to listen to them and learn from our exchanges. I can’t wait to discover Burundi, , to walk the green hills and to see the EU and Team Europe accompanying the beneficiaries of the various projects on a daily basis.

One of the ways in which we can better understand each other is through culture, which remains an exceptional bridge between people. Its vitality depends not only on political players, but above all on the dynamism of youth and women, who are truly at the heart of the EU’s action in Burundi, as they are essential in unlocking the country's potential.

To gain a better understanding of the EU actions in Burundi, I invite you to follow us on our various digital platforms, such as X (@UEauBurundi) and Facebook (UnionEuropéenneauBurundi). As well as my official account X @EUAmbBurundi

Burundi has enormous potential in human, social, economic and cultural terms.. The European Union will continue its commitment to work with the Burundian authorities and Burundian civil society to harness this potential and achieve inclusive development that leaves no one behind.
