Apart from the biennial Summits, the ASEM process features ministerial and senior official meetings in an increasing number of fields, reflecting the expanding opportunities of dialogue and cooperation between the two regions.
The Foreign Ministers Meeting is responsible for the overall coordination of the ASEM process and is a driving force of ASEM political dialogue.
Reporting to Foreign Ministers, a Senior Officials’ Meeting (SOM) is held regularly. They are assisted by a group of four Coordinators (currently China and Brunei on the Asian side, and the EU Presidency and Commission on the European side), which meet as and when necessary (normally two or three times a year).
ASEM Economic Ministers have met six times so far.
A Senior Officials’ Meeting on Trade and Investment (SOMTI) assists with the work of Economic Ministers. The conclusions of each meeting are summarised in a Chairman’s Statement. To date, ten such meetings have been held:

The Ministerial Conference was held in Lanzarote, Spain in April 2002 (Declaration)
