At the invitation of the Government of Nepal, the European Union established a mission to observe the Constituent Assembly Elections there on 19 November 2013.
Eva Joly, Member of the European Parliament, was Chief Observer. Over 100 observers from 27 EU Member States as well as Norway and Switzerland were deployed throughout the country. They met government and electoral officials, candidates and political parties, civil society representatives and the media.
Their mandate was to conduct a comprehensive analysis of the electoral process and whether it complied with the laws of the country, as well as regional and international commitments to democratic elections agreed upon by Nepal.
