The EU supports local authorities and civil society in Zambia (05/02/2013)
The European Union has awarded grants to twelve projects, 8 for Non State Actors and 4 for Local Authorities, totalling 7.6 million Euro (approximately 55 million KR) to support the implementation of projects in the areas of health, education, sustainable livelihood, governance, corporate social responsibility, water and sanitation in Zambia. The projects will be funded under the EU's thematic programme on "Non State Actors and Local Authorities in Development".
The twelve projects were selected following two thematic calls for proposals launched in 2012 to provide support to Non State Actors and to Local Authorities for actions aimed at strengthening the role and the capacities of Non State Actors and Local Authorities in advocacy and service delivery, as a step towards a more equitable, open and democratic society.
Commenting on the grants award, Head of the EU Delegation to Zambia, Ambassador Gilles Hervio said "I am happy with the diversity of proposals we received and pleased with the quality and the geographical and thematic diversity of the projects which have been selected."
