Health, Governance, and Civil Society Organisations

The EU works with the Government of the Republic of Zambia to improve the access to social and other services, which contribute to Human Development, to accelerating progress towards the Millennium  Development Goals (MDGs), and to support equitable economic growth.

Good quality services require efficient public institutions, responsive to the needs of the population and accountable to the citizens.

The EU support for improved social services is therefore linked to efforts towards strengthening Governance, and the role of Non.

In Zambia, the EU currently supports:

  • The Health Sector through interventions with a focus on improved Service Delivery at District Level, and measures for Health Systems Strengthening.
  • Non-State Actors and Local Authorities in providing better services to the citizens, promoting crucial issues and strengthening citizen's voice on relevant development topics and human rights issues.
  • The Governance Sector through interventions, which aim at strengthening the Election Process and at increasing the effectiveness and efficiency of justice institutions. The EU also promotes Governance as a cross-sectional issue in all areas of the ongoing cooperation with the Government of the Republic of Zambia.
