Regular work of the WTO
Besides negotiating in the context of the Doha Development Agenda, the EU is active in the regular work of the WTO, which takes place in all the various Councils and Committees of the organisation. The main purpose of these regular bodies is to monitor whether and how the rules and agreements that have been negotiated among its Members are being respected and properly implemented. Importantly, the Councils and Committees also ensure transparency of WTO Members' trade policies and provide a forum for WTO members to discuss topical trade issues.
The most important areas of WTO regular work include the following:
- Trade policy reviews
- Monitoring of trade and trade-related measures
- Regional trade agreements
- WTO accessions
