Federica Mogherini, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy since November 1, 2014, hit the ground running! She has circled the globe, crossing oceans and continents, met with world leaders, utilized the EU’s “soft power” to confront major global challenges including Ukraine, nuclear talks with Iran, ISIS, and terrorism in Europe, all the while managing the EU’s diplomatic service, European External Action Service, which she heads.

She is only the second person to occupy the position of EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, created by the Treaty of Lisbon. Under the treaty, she is also a Vice-President of the European Commission, a dual role deliberately designed to unify the EU’s external actions.
