EU Delegation to Russia launches regional outreach campaign on research cooperation (30/08/2012)

The Delegation of the European Union to Russia in cooperation with Russian universities organises information seminars in Arkhangelsk, Chelyabinsk, Irkutsk, Kaliningrad and Perm to raise awareness among Russian scientists of funding opportunities under the EU’s Seventh Framework Programme for Research and Technological Development. Over the years, Russia continues to be the most successful international cooperation partner country of the Framework Programmes for research in terms of the total number of participations, the total amount of EU financial contribution received and the number of collaborative actions launched.

In July 2012, the European Commission announced the final and biggest ever set of calls for proposals under its Seventh Framework Programme (FP7). In total, €8.1 billion is available to support projects and ideas in Europe and beyond that will tackle issues such as improving human health, protecting the environment and finding new solutions to challenges arising, for example, from urbanisation and managing waste.

Universities, research organisations and industry will be among more than 15,000 funding recipients, with special attention given to small and medium-sized enterprises. Grants will be determined on the basis of calls for proposals and a peer review process which are highly competitive.

With a view to encouraging participation of Russian scientists in the FP7, the EU Delegation to Russia jointly with a number of Russian universities organises information seminars in several cities of Russia. These meetings will provide an overview of the 7th Framework Programme, as well as information on the recent calls and practical advice on various aspects of participation in FP7, thus helping researchers and university departments in Russian regions to learn more about funding opportunities available under the programme.

The information seminars will take place on:
5 September - Chelyabinsk - South Ural State University
10 September - Perm - Perm State National Research University, EU Information Centre
11 September - Kaliningrad - Baltic Federal University
21 September - Irkutsk - Irkutsk State Technical University
28 September - Arkhangelsk - Northern (Arctic) Federal University
