I am appalled by the bombings this morning at Zaventem airport and the European district in Brussels which have cost several innocent lives and injured many others.
I extend my sincerest sympathies to the relatives and friends of the victims. These attacks mark another low by the terrorists in the service of hatred and violence.
The European institutions are hosted in Brussels thanks to the generosity of Belgium's government and its people. The European Union returns this solidarity now and will fulfill its role to help Brussels, Belgium and Europe as a whole counter the terror threat which we are all facing.

The European Union (EU) has officially commissioned a Ksh 90.8 million (800,000 Euros) project in West Pokot County that will benefit more than 135,000 people. The ‘Advocacy, System Strengthening and Capacity Enhancement for Nutrition Transformation’ (ASCENT) project covers November 2015 and May 2018.
West Pokot County has the worst cases of chronic malnutrition in Kenya (45.9%) according to the Kenya Demographic Health Survey (KDHS) 2014, with about 50,000 children under age of five years being stunted (too short for their age. The five year County Nutrition Action Plan (CNAP) covering 2014-2018 estimates that Ksh1.3 billion is required for nutrition programmes.

The European Union more than doubles its assistance to Kenya's preparations for the 2017 Elections while an EU elections follow up mission visits Kenya. The Ambassador of the European Union to Kenya, Stefano A. Dejak, has today handed over 560 million KES from the EU to support Kenya's preparations of transparent, credible and peaceful elections in 2017. This is more than double the funding provided by the EU in 2013. The European Union contribution will benefit the UNDP basket fund established to support Kenyan institutions in their efforts to make sure that the vote of every Kenyan will be respected and will make a difference in 2017, strengthening further Kenya's young and vibrant democracy as a positive example and a beacon of hope for all Africans.

EU Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Management, Christos Stylianides, made the announcement during his visit to Kenya today, where he visited the Dadaab refugee camp, the largest in the world, hosting over 350 000 people.
