Ms. Daniela Clejanu, the Project’s senior long-term expert in the MSTQ area, made a presentation about the international practice of accreditation of medical laboratories for compliance with ISO 15189. The major topics covered were:

  • Introduction to ISO 15189– the reference standard for the accreditation of clinical laboratories stipulating the requirements these laboratories have to meet in order to be considered competent;
  • Accreditation to ISO 15189;
  • Accreditation of clinical laboratories in the Republic of Kazakhstan;
  • Contribution of the DITP Project to establishing an accreditation system of clinical laboratories

The Project “Development and Implementation of Trade Policies and Regulations” was funded by the EU to the amount of 1,787,000 Euros, aiming at supporting the further integration of the Republic of Kazakhstan into the world economy and at increasing the capacity of the country in the process of wider economic, regulatory legal, and administrative reform necessary for further trade liberalization in order to promote economic development. The project was launched in the end of July last year and will operate until January 2013.

The Project “Development and Implementation of Trade Policies and Regulations” will provide additional support in the field of ISO 15189 with a senior short-term expert who will train NCA assessors and present a workshop for clinical laboratories. These activities will take place from 19 to 27 September 2011, in Almaty, Kazakhstan. The objective of this assistance is to improve the practical knowledge of NCA’s assessors and to start preparing clinical laboratories for accreditation under the above mentioned ISO standard, thus rendering services of higher quality and reliability meeting international requirements.
