Statement on the earthquake in Afghanistan and Pakistan

EU News 296/25015

Brussels, 27 October 2015

Spokespersons of High Representative/Vice-President Federica Mogherini and Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Management Christos Stylianides issued the following statement:

The European Union is saddened by the terrible loss of life caused by the earthquake that hit, in particular, Afghanistan and Pakistan yesterday.

The full extent of the casualties and damage is still unknown, and in both Afghanistan and Pakistan reports indicate that there will likely be an increase in terms of loss of life and injuries.

We are closely following the situation in both countries and stand ready to answer calls for assistance and support if requested.

Our hearts go out to all those affected, particularly the families and friends of the victims.
