Stockfish European Film Festival around the corner!

The Stockfish European Film Festival in Reykjavík is an international film festival that will be held in Bíó Paradís, Reykjavik’s art-house cinema, and several other locations from February 19th – March 1st, 2015.

The Festival will pay tribute to the best in new European cinema. In addition, a wide array of the most prominent award-winning films from around the globe will be introduced to Icelandic audiences. One of the festival’s main goals is to provide a platform for the domestic and international film communities to come together, and to foster cooperation and collaboration between all of the key institutions within the Icelandic film industry.

Stockfish may be a new festival, but similar festivals have been held in Reykjavik before. It traces its beginnings, amongst other things, to 1978 when the Reykjavík Film Festival was first held. That festival was held regularly until 2001, but has now been reborn under a new name. For the last three years Evrópustofa and Bíó Paradís have organised a European Film Festival in Reykjavik and around Iceland. The cooperation continues with an even broader spectrum this year under Stockfish.

Two awards will be given at the festival – the Audience Award and the Best Short Film Award.
