Open meetings on 28 May with Dr. Roel Beetsma

Evropustofa hosts three meetings with the Dutch economist Dr. Roel Beetsma, Wednesday 28 May. The first two meeting will take place in Reykjavik and the third one will be held at Bifrost University. The lectures will take place in English and all are welcome. However, registration is needed for the first meeting, which takes place at Grand Hotel between 8:30 and 10:00. Breakfast will be served between 08:00-08:30. We kindly ask you to send in your registration by e-mail to before 16:00 on Tuesday 27 May. The two other meetings are held at the Ceremonial Hall in the main building of the University of Iceland at 12:00 and at 16:00 at Hrifla, Bifrost University. No registration is needed for those events.


The Euro, the Krona, and the Capital Controls - 08:30 at Grand Hotel

Icelandic experts will accompany Dr. Roel Beetsma at the breakfast meeting where the focus will be on the currency issues in Iceland and the post-crisis status of the euro.
The meeting is hosted by Evropustofa in collaboration with the Confederation of Icelandic Employers (SA), The Icelandic Confederation of Labour (ASI), and the Federation of Iceland Industries (SI).

The meeting will be held in English and moderated by Vilborg Einarsdottir, director of Mentor.

All are welcome but please be so kind as to send in your registration by e-mail to before 16:00 on Tuesday 27 May. There is no registration fee.

Iceland and the Euro - 12:00 at the University of Iceland and 16:00 at Bifrost University

The seminar, entitled Iceland and the Euro, will be held in the Ceremonial Hall in the University of Iceland's main building, at 12:00 and in Hrifla, Bifrost University at 16:00. There Dr. Roel Beetsma will give a lecture on Iceland and the euro where he will review the traditional arguments for and against common currencies, how these arguments have been affected by recent developments and what the adoption of the euro would mean for Iceland's economy and its relation to its European partners.

The seminar is hosted in collaboration with the Faculty of Economics at the University of Iceland and Bifröst University.

Panel discussions will take place after the lecture in the Ceremonial Hall in the University of Iceland where Gylfi Magnusson, associate professor at the University of Iceland and Katrin Olafsdottir, assistant professor at Reykjavik University will lead discussions. The seminar will be moderated by Professor Þorvaldur Gylfason.

The seminars will take place in English. All are welcome and no need to register.
