European Film Festival - The whole circle!

Evrópustofa and Bíó Paradís will be launching the "European Film Festival - The Whole Circle” this June! The purpose of the film festival is to bring high-quality European cinema in the best digital screening quality to nine villages around Iceland on a trip circling the island, 2-10 June 2014.

Each location will be presented with three movies: Danish children's movie Antboy, Icelandic movie Metalhead (supported by the MEDIA programme), and the Belgian movie Broken Circle Breakdown. The movies will be shown at the local community centres at 16:00, 18:00 and 20:00, except in Vopnafjörður where the movies will be shown at 13:00, 15:00 and 17:00.

The first stop will be Ólafsvík on 2 June, Hólmavík on 3 June, Súðavík on 4 June, Blönduós on 5 June, Húsavík on 6 June, Vopnafjörður on 7 June, Djúpivogur on 8 June, Vík í Mýrdal on 9 June and finally Flúðir on 10 June.

Icelandic filmmaking is largely done through cooperation with European countries and with European grants. The Icelandic Film Centre participates in the film festival with the Icelandic film Málmhaus, which was funded through the EU's MEDIA programme. Since Iceland began its participation in the MEDIA programme (now Creative Europe), Icelandic film production companies and movies have received close to one billion ISK in loans and grants, or 48 millions per year for 21 years.

A journalist from the British newspaper The Guardian will join the festival crew and report on the festival and its reception around Iceland.

To mark the beginning of the “Circle”, there will be an honorary screening of Antboy (dubbed in Icelandic) in Hlégarður community centre in Mosfellsbær, Sunday 1 June at 14:30.

All are welcome and there is no admission fee!
