Free Europe Day Concert tonight!

Evropustofa is hosting a grand concert in honour of Europe Day on the 10th of May at 20:00 at the Eldborg Concert Hall in Harpa. The concert is free of charge to all those who wish to attend.

The theme of the concert is the joy of folk music, Hearts in Harmony, with musical performances by the Irish folk band FullSet and by the Icelandic Balkan band Byzantine Silhouette. A special guest at the concert is the singer Ragnheiður Gröndal

The concert is dedicated to the fight against climate change.

Europe Day (9 May) celebrates peace and unity in Europe. The date marks the anniversary of the historical 'Schuman declaration'. At a speech in Paris in 1950, the French Foreign Minister, Robert Schuman, set out his idea for a new form of political cooperation in Europe, which would make war between Europe’s nations unthinkable. His vision was to create a European institution that would pool and manage coal and steel production. A treaty creating such a body was signed just under a year later. Schuman’s proposal is considered to be the beginning of what is now the European Union.

The concert is free, but tickets must be reserved at or through the ticket office, and are available from the 2nd of May.
