Europe Day 9 May

9 May 1950 the French Foreign Minister Robert Schuman made the first move towards the creation of what we now know as the European Union. Therefore, 9 May 2014 marks the 64th anniversary of the Schuman Declaration and of the European Union.

Only five years after the Second World War, Schuman proposed the creation of a supranational European institution. He called upon reconciliation between countries that had almost destroyed each other, which was a brave thing to do and even imagine at that time.

It is due to this that 9 May is celebrated all over Europe every year and Iceland is no exception. Evropustofa invites all to attend a grand concert in honor of Europe Day on 9 May at 20:00 at the Eldborg Hall in Harpa. The concert is free, but tickets must be reserved at or through the ticket office, 528 5050.

Further information on the concert can be found here.
