Special adviser to EU's High Representative Federica Mogherini visits Georgia (13/07/2016)

Special adviser Nathalie Tocci was in Tbilisi to consult with various Georgian ministries and authorities on the new European Security Strategy. The Strategy is in its final stages of preparation to be presented to the leaders of EU Member States.

Speaking at the EU Delegation in Georgia, Ms Tocci explained: "The process of developing the Strategy involves an extensive outreach programme both with the Member States and with our external partners. Georgia is one of the few countries we have selected for external consultations besides the US, Japan, Brazil and Norway."
She also met with the Deputy Head of EU's Monitoring Mission in Georgia (EUMM) Mr Erik Hoeeg who briefed her on the EUMM's mandate and current security situation in Georgia, including the breakaway regions.
Background: The European Security Strategy is part of the wider framework called "European Global Strategy on Foreign Policy and Security" that seeks to identify clear objectives and policies for EU's external relations. Besides the Security Strategy, on which N.Tocci assists the High Representative Federica Mogherini, the issues of counterterrorism, cyber-security, energy, climate, migration and humanitarian aid are addressed in the Global Strategy.
