1st EU-Georgia Parliamentary Association Committee meeting to be held on 2-4 November in Tbilisi (31/10/2015)
Seven European Parliament members (MEPs) will meet Georgian parliamentarians in the framework of the inaugural Parliamentary Association Committee meeting, to be held in Tbilisi during 2- 4 November. This new Political Body, enshrined in the EU-Georgia AA/DCFTA, is meant to provide the democratic scrutiny of the agreement.
The MEPs and the Georgian Parliamentary Association Committee members, led by its chair Zviad Kvachantiradze, will discuss, inter alia, the state of play of the implementation of the EU-Georgia Association Agreement, including its DCFTA component and the progress made in visa liberalisation process. MEPs are also expected to discuss, with both their counterparts and the Georgian authorities, the steps taken to entrench modernisation and sustainable democratic reforms in the country, in order to maintain Georgia's democratic momentum. The current situation in the breakaway territories of Abkhazia and South Ossetia will also be under scrutiny, with EUMM field trip to the ABL being part of the programme.
The EP delegation will be led by Dr Sajjad KARIM (ECR, UK); Euronest Parliamentary Assembly Co-President Heidi Hautala (Greens, FI) and M. Andrejs Mammikins (S&D, LV), standing rapporteur on Georgia from the EP Committee on Foreign Affairs will also join this mission, alongside fellow MEPs Valentinas Mazuronis (ALDE, LT), Claire Moody (S&D, UK), Agnieszka Kozlowska-Rajewicz (EPP, PL) and M. Kosma Zlotowski (ECR, PL).
