The EU Celebrates Strong Cultural Cooperation among People of EU and China (15/09/2015)
Brussels, 15 September
Today, Tibor Navracsics, EU Commissioner for Education, Culture, Youth and Sport, is meeting Chinese Vice-Premier Liu Yandong to take stock of the achievements in the cooperation of EU and Chinese organisations and citizens in areas like education, multilingualism, culture, youth and gender equality. As part of the 'High-Level People-to-People Dialogue' between the two countries, the gathering will also mark the 40th anniversary of EU-China diplomatic relations celebrated this year. Ahead of the event, Commissioner Navracsics said: "Direct contacts and exchanges between people have made a valuable contribution to the 40 years of the EU's diplomatic relations with China. Our partnership is a great example of how we can address societal issues facing both the EU and China. We look forward to continuing the dialogue with the people of China and strengthen this vital relationship." Vice-Premier Liu said: "The China-EU HPPD has played a pioneering role in the history of the China-EU relationship. The HPPD provides an irreplaceable platform to further develop mutual trust and friendship, eliminate prejudice and misunderstanding, and promote common prosperity and development. Next to political mutual trust and economic cooperation, People-to-People exchange has become the third pillar for the China-EU relationship."
