FRANCE AND GERMANY CELEBRATE 50 YEARS OF FRIENDSHIP (22/01/2013)
Europe is celebrating today the 50th anniversary of the Elysée Treaty. Leaving behind the chaos and destruction of two world wars, France and Germany demonstrated visionary courage and audacity in signing the Elysée Treaty on 22 January 1963. In doing so, the two countries opened a new era of peace and stability for the European continent. They realized it was time to turn the page and build together a peaceful future without forgetting the past. This accord was the cornerstone of decades of reconciliation and cooperation in strategic areas such as defence and economy. This commitment is the origin and the driving force of the European Union, an area of peace, stability and co-operation.
