On the 97th anniversary of Afghanistan’s independence, the European Union Police Mission in Afghanistan (EUPOL Afghanistan) wishes to warmly congratulate the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and its citizens.
EUPOL Acting Head of Mission, Mr. Tarmo Miilits joins all Afghans in celebrating the country’s past achievements as well as embracing the future: “On behalf of EUPOL Afghanistan, I sincerely congratulate all Afghans on their Independence Day. Coming from a country that regained its independence just 25 years ago myself – just one calendar day after your Independence Day – I know how important self-determination is. I seize this opportunity to salute the courage of the people of Afghanistan. I am convinced that your work for a better future will be successful.”
The Afghan government and EUPOL have been partners since the establishment of the mission in Afghanistan in 2007, marking nine years of cooperation in building a civilian police service that operates within an improved rule of law framework and in respect of human rights.
Happy Independence Day!
