Kabul, May 2016. The EUPOL Head of Mission, Ms. Pia Stjernvall, invited the Afghan Attorney General, Mr. Farid Hamidi and his three deputies, Mr. Noor Habib Jalal, Mr. Enayatullah Kamaal and Mr. Abdul Fatah Azizi for a working dinner at EUPOL HQ.
Ms. Stjernvall congratulated the Attorney General on the recent signing of the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for “police-prosecutor cooperation” with the Ministry of Interior (MoI). During the dinner, both sides discussed the preparation for the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the MoI’s General Training Command and the Attorney General Office’s (AGO) Professional Training Institute. The signing of the MOU will allow for joint training and utilisation of a developed “common curriculum”.
Mr. Hamidi shared his opinion on the AGO’s outlook on the vision for the Afghan National Police (ANP) as well as the role, responsibilities and legal status of ANP as a civilian police force. He added that the recent organisational reforms within the AGO have resulted in the reviewing of policies on anti-corruption and also in developing the new Anti-Corruption Justice Council (ACJC).
EUPOL is committed to supporting both the AGO and the MoI in enhancing cooperation to ensure the police-prosecutor cooperation helps the fight against corruption and implementation of law.
