Kabul, March 2106. The new academic year of the Afghan National Police Academy (ANPA) was started yesterday, on 29 March, 2016. The ceremony was attended by the Afghan Acting Minister of Interior Taj Mohammad Jahed, Deputy Interior Minister for Administration Lieutenant General Ikramuddin Yawar, EUPOL Head of Mission Ms. Pia Stjernvall, members of the Afghan Parliament and high-ranking generals and other key officials. Acting Minister Jahed stressed the importance of training and education to the Afghan National Police (ANP) and also said the professionalisation of the ANP is one of the priorities of the Ministry of Interior (MoI).
On the same day, a monument was inaugurated in memory of the ANP who have been martyred during the war. Ms. Stjernvall stated the ANP are performing a great job in a challenging environment and EUPOL shares its thoughts and prayers with victims and families of the ANP who lost their lives trying to bring peace and stability to Afghanistan.
EUPOL, as part of its ANP Training and Professionalisation Component, will support the MoI at strategic level to enhance the capabilities of the Afghan police.
