26.04.2010 - Extract from Council conclusions on CSDP, Luxembourg The Council reaffirmed the strong commitment of the European Union to support the continued development of the rule of law in Iraq. The proposed activities for the mission over the next 2 years will also increase its presence and visibility in Iraq, as well as more specialized and alumni follow up training in country, building upon the success of recent pilot activities. The Council welcomed ongoing work in preparing EUJUST LEX's extension until June 2012, following a strategic review.
17.11.2009 - Extract from Council conclusions on ESDP, Brussels The Council underlined the strong continued commitment of the European Union to support the development of the rule of law in Iraq, specifically by providing training and mentoring in the area of the police, the judiciary and the penitentiary system. The Council welcomed the extension of EUJUST LEX for one year and its first pilot activities on Iraqi territory. Building on the success of these in-country activities, the mission is stepping up its engagement to support the rule of law in Iraq through further planned work. The Council stressed the importance of ensuring a geographical balance in the mission activities and the continuation of training of senior officials, in Iraq, in the region as well as in Europe.
18.05.2009 - Council conclusions on EUJUST LEX, Brussels, 18 May 2009 The Council welcomed that EUJUST LEX will be extended for one year and that the mission is preparing the first pilot activities on Iraqi territory to provide training, strategic advice and mentoring to senior officials of the Iraqi Criminal Justice Sector, as the security conditions allow. The Council underlined the strong commitment of the European Union to the support of the area of rule of law in Iraq, more specifically to the police, the penitentiary and the judiciary.

23.06.2008 - The Council adopted a joint action amending and extending joint action 2005/190/CFSP on the EU integrated rule of law mission for Iraq Council meeting on Iraq - EU integrated rule of law mission (Extract from the press release of the 2881st AGRICULTURE and FISHERIES) The Council adopted a joint action amending and extending joint action 2005/190/CFSP on the EU integrated rule of law mission for Iraq (EUJUST LEX mission). The joint action extends the EUJUST LEX mission until 30 June 2009. It also provides for a new financial reference amount up to EUR 7.2 million in order to cover expenditure related to the mission for the period from 1 July 2008 to 30 June 2009. Since 2005, the EU has been contributing towards strengthening the rule of law in Iraq and promoting human rights through EUJUST LEX by providing training courses and work experience secondments in EU member states for senior Iraqi police, judicial and penitentiary personnel. EUJUST LEX was established under joint action 2005/190/CFSP (see Official Journal L 62, 9.3.2005, p. 37).
