UN Security Council Visits EUFOR RCA in Bangu
A mission of the United Nations Security Council visited EUFOR last week in order to assess the situation in the Central African Republic.
Representatives of the 15 members of the organization currently chaired by France arrived in Bangui for a 48 hours stay, and attended meetings with transition authorities and the international community.
GOODBYE EUFOR, WELCOME EUMAM
After 11 months of intensive operations EUFOR RCA has successfully completed its mission in Bangui and all components have left the Central African Republic to return to their countries, but at the same time the European mission EUMAM is deployed, to facilitate the reorganization of the Central African armed forces.
After having handed over the responsibility of the airport one the 17th of November, EUFOR has transferred the responsibility of both 3rd and 5th districts to MINUSCA on the 28th of February, at a symbolic parade with all International Forces and Transitional Authorities.

General Philippe Pontiès and General Jean Marc Bacquet – respectively the Operational and Force Commanders of EUFOR RCA – were decorated last Thursday with the “Central African recognition medal”, for their exceptional service with the European Union military mission.

Bangui, 9th of August, the European Union military Headquarters of the EUFOR troops to Central Africa Republic contributed troops and the Joint Coordination Centre to organize and provide the security of the Bangui March of Peace ending in a final ceremony with around 3,000 people in the stadium of Bangui to listen to the speech of the President.

Bangui – Larissa, 1st of August 2014, the Force Commander of the European Union Forces to Bangui, Central Africa Republic, the French Brigadier General Thierry Lion reports to the superior Operation Headquarters that all 750 EUFOR RCA troops as well as the Force Headquarters are fully accommodated in the UCATEX military camp in Bangui. Within only 90 days a “little but perfect town” has been built up from zero and approximately 5,000 km far from Europe.

EU Strategic airlift to Central Africa
On the 1st of April 2014 the European Union took the decision to launch a military mission in Central Africa Republic (RCA). Only 2,5 months later the 800 strong EUFOR RCA was fully operational in Bangui, 5300 km away from Europe. “Fast track planning”, by the Operation Headquarters in Larissa/Greece and the EU Strategic Airlift were the main keys of this success.
